Also, I should mention that the reason I need the treadmill is that I am not yet able to walk Howie for as long as he needs, even if the weather cooperated, because I had surgery to replace both my knees in September. Eventually, I am expecting to be functioning at a better level. For now, I do have the experience to help him past his other problems so he can become adoptable, so I am glad he came to me. It would be great if he could work on the treadmill while I ride on my recumbent bike so we can both get the workouts we need.
One of our newest fosters, Howie, just came to us last week. He is very overweight and needs a lot of exercise. He never learned to play with toys, probably because he was with an "alpha" type dog that probably took everything for himself. He can be trained to use a treadmill, and it would be a great way for him to get consistent exercise in this weather. Howie loves to please but did not have an owner who set rules, so we have a lot of work ahead of us before he can be put up for adoption - but that's why we do this isn't it! For the love of helping these great dogs, even those with "issues".
If anyone has a treadmill sitting in a back room that is a dust collector, but still working, please let me know if you would be willing to donate or sell inexpensively. It would be even better if it was the folding type so I can pick it up myself.
Please e-mail me directly so we don't flood everyone's e-mail. If I do get one, I can always post a note saying so.
