The New York City Japanese Language September Meetup

Hi Guys,

For the September J-Meetup, we will have a Japanese-English Speed Dating! Members will have the opportunity to introduce themselves each other in Japanese. Also, if you are an ESL student who wants to improve your English communication skill or prefer to talk in English, feel free to do so. The purpose of this event is not limited to find your dates, but also to seek your language exchange partners or new friends.

Where: Arctica Bar & Grill, Downstairs
Location: 384 Third Avenue (between 27th and 28th St.)
When: Friday, 9/21/2012
Time: 8pm - 11pm (Speed Dating will begin at 8:30pm and end at 9:30pm)

Basic "jikoshoukai" (Introducing yourself)

Konnichiwa / Konbanwa! (hi/good evening)

Watashi wa / Watashi no namae wa your name. (namae = name)

Watashi wa your country jin desu. e.g. America jin = American person

Douzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu. (Nice to meet you)

Rule of the Game

The participants will sit in pairs to begin their first 10 minute date to discuss anything they want in Japanese or in English.

After 10 minutes, a bell will ring, and one of each pair move on to meet their next date.

Following each date, the participants will mark on a card whether they would have an interest in meeting their date again.

After completing the speed dating game, the participants will go look for the person they are interested in speaking again. If a mutual interest is noted, each party will exchange phone numbers.
