Hi Nomikai goers! JASW is hosting a Sake Tasting even this Thursday. Please see below for more info :) Register online please!
Sake Tasting from Japan's Northern Regions
Every part of Japan produces sake, and everyone thinks their region's sake (and rice) is the best. Join us on Thursday, December 8 as Michael Simkin, one of the world's leading experts on sake, leads us in a tasting of sake from Japan's northern regions, Tohoku and Hokuriku.
Over 270 breweries in the Tohoku region were affected by the tsunami last March, yet most of them are "back in business" and once again producing quality sake. While fifteen sake breweries were completely destroyed, not one single brewer has decided to give up the effort to rebuild.
Join us in showing support for the people and sake industry in the affected areas.Mr. Simkin will educate us not just about the sake itself, but also how the sake industry from the Tohoku region has been affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. His talk will give us a greater understanding on the magnitude of the damage to the Tohoku sake industry and what they are doing to rebuild. Following the lecture, everyone will be invited to taste five (5) sakes from Tohoku and Hokuriku regions of Japan.
