Voted the #3 "Quirky US Landmark" in July 2014 by USA Today, Carhenge (http://www.carhenge.com) pays homage to the famous stone monument on the Salisbury plains in England. In addition to the primary installation, created from vintage cars, you'll also find other works on the property, including a dinosaur, and my favorite, "Spawning Salmon."
On this excursion, we'll photograph Carhenge at sunset and after dark, working in some astrophotography and light-painting! On Sunday, we will return for sunrise as it comes up through the majestic sculptures. On our way back, we'll make a side trip to a spectacular tractor graveyard in nearby Bridgeport, NE, where we have arranged special private access.
Techniques You'll Explore
• Long Exposure (optional)
• HDR
• Monochrome
• Digital Infrared (optional)
• Light Painting
• Astrophotography/Star Trails/Milky Way
Itinerary
Saturday, September 27th
Arrive at Carhenge at 2pm to meet for orientation. We'll do some basic photography, and scout the location for the evening shooting spots. If there are moving clouds, we'll try some long exposures with ND filters.
After dinner in Alliance, we'll return to Carhenge and photograph it at sunset and twilight. After twilight, our focus will turn to light-painting and astrophotography, including Milky Way and star trails. I will bring several hand-held spotlights for light-painting.
Sunday, September 28th
We return to Carhenge for sunrise, capturing the sun as it rises through the cars. After sunrise, we'll take a side trip to a tractor parts yard in nearby Bridgeport; perfect for HDR, Monochrome, and Infrared photography. From there, we'll depart for home.
