Vampires, Slo Poke Rodrigues and Hotlicks under another name

The Vampires will be launching their fourth studio album ”Tiro” as part of their Australia Tour, alongside DANAÏDES and Slo Poke Rodriguez.

This one-off event brings together three of the most eclectic yet musically captivating jazz-groove bands Sydney has produced in the last ten years. From the "Tiro" album launch party of the iconic band The Vampires to art-rockers Danaides and the insightful grooves of Pat Harris' Slo Poke Rodriguez, this is a showcase of the very best of Sydney's jazz talent. Not to be missed.

The Vampires

"Played with verve, high ability and inspiration, The Vampires have produced another distinguished album." **** - 4/5 stars - The Australian

The Vampires' music is a unique blend of soulful jazz, old-school reggae, romantic Afro-Peruvian, danceable Afro-Cuban, exotic Balkan and all-out funk-laden Afrobeat. Combined with risk-taking improvisation, sophisticated compositions and an uncanny sense of dialogue and emotion between the sax/trumpet front line, the band defies genres and have wrought a style of their own.

After the success of their three critically acclaimed albums South Coasting (Jazzgroove Records), Chellowdene and Garfish, as well as extensive touring and festival appearances over the past seven years, the group are currently touring Australia to promote their anticipated fourth album Tiro. The band has performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Brisbane International Jazz Festival, Peats Ridge Festival and the Sydney Opera House.

Jeremy Rose - saxophone
Nick Garbett - trumpet
Alex Boneham - double bass
Alex Masso - drums

Electro art-rockers DANA DES will present another set of bone crunching goodness from their record "hotlix" along with premiering a bunch of brand new material. Imagine Goldfrapp, Battles and Justice having a jam and you might get the infectious sound of DANA DES.

Evan Mannell - drums/MPC
Aaron Flower - guitar
Ben Hauptmann - guitar/midi guitar

Slo Poke Rodriguez

With splashes of influence from Bill Frisell, Menahan Street Band and even Los Lobos, this first record as Slowpoke Rodriguez explores the compositions of bass player Pat Harris as embraced by an all-star band of local Sydney musicians, featuring members of Watussi, Deep Sea Arcade, Dereb the Ambassador and The Strides.

Carlos Adura - Drums
Ken Allars - Trumpet
Sandro Bueno - Percussion
Pat Harris - Bass
Daniel Pliner - Piano
Simon Relf - Guitar

TICKETING INFO - I am not planning to do a dinner and not sure what time actual show starts, with 3 bands I can't imagine it will start at 9.30, but will get back to this when I find out more info.

There will be an admission for show only, I am not sure how much at this stage. Might be on Basement or Moshtix site. Dinner & Show tickets include entry, seating and 2 course meal.

Hi, I now have more info on this gig. The first band actually starts at 8pm, so we could meet at 7.54 and find a seat/table. I am not planning on a dinner reservation either.

Joanne, I'm not coming for a dinner either, but it makes sense to come earlier to take good spots. I'd suggest 8.00, some drinks and a good chat. It gets too crowded by 9:30

saw the alcohotlicks at 107 (jazzgroove) this past Tues and their sound has really changed for the new album. Heavier guitar, not as much of the "wall of sound" effect that Baz and Ben used to create, but it was still stellar.
