I’m writing to you today because JobGroup has some exciting opportunities ahead of it to provide even more value to the Portland Metro community in the months ahead. To achieve these opportunities, however, JobGroup will need help in multiple ways. If your participation in JobGroup events has provided value, then we would appreciate it if you’d consider helping JobGroup in one or more of the following ways.

First, if JobGroup has helped you find a new job or improve your position at your current position, we’d love to hear about it and share your story on our web site. We’re interested in both written testimonials and in doing video testimonials. Much as written references on LinkedIn provide credibility to individuals, these testimonials can provide important credibility to JobGroup and its mission.
Second, as we state at every JobGroup event, we can use more volunteers. We want to be able to expand JobGroup to make a greater impact in the community and provide a more sustained value to everyone. To do so, we need more resources. Our immediate needs are in three areas:

• Curriculum presentation: Our Director of Curriculum Development, Andrew Voss, has done a fantastic job of presenting the classes for nearly a year. However, Andrew is departing from JobGroup, effective April 18th, to pursue new business opportunities. As a result, we are looking for those who might be interested in presenting our curriculum and enhancing it along the way as new information about the various aspects of job hunting come to light. Ideally, we’d like to find a team of 6-8 people who’d be willing to devote a couple of hours every month or so to presenting classes.
• Membership development: We have a need for a person to take the reins of building and leading the task of membership development. We’ve talked a lot internally about providing additional resources to JobGroup members, such as a membership directory, a contact list of quality recruiters, providing a regular newsletter of events, and many other services that can provide benefit. Unfortunately, we’ve never had anyone with the bandwidth and experience in these kinds of areas to be able to take this on. This would be a key leadership role within JobGroup.
• Web Development: We have a need for someone with good web site development experience to provide some time to assist JobGroup with the technical aspects of a website overhaul. I am currently responsible for the maintenance of our web site, and I will freely admit that I am not a web designer, and don’t have the time to learn what I need in order to be successful in this role.
If you would like to volunteer for any of these roles, please contact me at [address removed]. Also, I am collecting a roster of volunteers that we can communicate with when new and/or urgent volunteer needs arise, such as when we plan major events going forward. If you’d like to be on the list to hear about such opportunities, also contact me at [address removed].

Finally, many have asked whether how JobGroup functions financially. To date, we have been a 100% volunteer organization, with all expenses coming out of the pockets of the volunteers. Because we’ve been getting all of our legal and financial paperwork set up, we have been unable to accept donations. This has now changed. We have everything in place to accept donations, and now have a PayPal link set up on our website, and we hope to add it to the Meetup page in the near future. If you would like to donate to JobGroup, we would greatly appreciate your contribution, as having funds could open doors to finding better and larger venues for our offerings, as well as provide resources to improve the quality of the presentations that we provide.

One last request: If you have a contact to a venue that JobGroup might be able to utilize on a regular basis to hold curriculum sessions, especially if it could be used for free on one evening each week on a consistent basis, please contact our Event Coordinators, Karina Dana, and Juergen Westermann, at [address removed] and [address removed].

We hope to be producing some exciting new material and events in the coming months, so please “stay tuned” to what we have going on.

Thanks very much for your time and your support,

Gary Cameron
Director of Operations
