For the sake of transparency, I just wanted to give everyone an update on the group's financial matters.
First of all, thanks to all of you who made personal donations earlier in the year! I appreciate your support. However, I've discontinued taking individual donations, now that Exkursion has become a sponsor.
I offered to promote some of Exkursion's paddling classes, if they would make a contribution to the group to go toward the Meetup subscription fee. It's been a great success for both of us, as many group members took classes this summer (and a few more will tomorrow at Presque Isle). Their instructors are expert and friendly and their classes are fun. I highly recommend their training, to increase your safety and enjoyment of the sport. Personally, I bought a boat from them this spring and couldn't be happier with it. Their store isn't huge, but they usually have what I need and, if not, they'll order it in. They're good guys. If you see Fred Gunter, the owner, in the store, please thank him for helping our group!
We've also gotten an offer from Columbia for a 3-month sponsorship. In exchange for a monthly donation to the group, we'll display their logo on the home page, hold at least one Meetup a month during that time, and mention at the events that they're sponsoring the group. They're promoting their Omni-Heat gear. Although I'm a gear head, I don't know much about it yet, but I do know that the commercials on their site are great! (click on the logo). Paddling season is winding down, but this will be a good excuse to schedule an event in December.
One other thing - we've grown to an amazing 499 members. Number 500 will join in no time. Just for fun, let's bombard number 500 with welcome greetings! They won't know what hit them!
Hope to see you on the water soon,
