Click for RATINGS (http://files.meetup.com/270488/Trip%20Ratings.pdf) Information - Intermediate SK3/SK4 (http://files.meetup.com/270488/Trip%20Ratings.pdf), 12 or 14 miles, approx. 4 hours on water, 3-4MPH pace. Depending on launch, we may experience waves to 3', wind speed depending on conditions present, and current to 2.5 kts.
TRIP DESCRIPTION - The trip will leave at 8AM from one of two locations; behind the Little Bar Restaurant in Goodland, or from the Caxambas Park Marina on Marco Island. From the launch we will head out to Cape Romano. While out there we will break for a bit; food, fishing, shelling and photography are all good options.
DIRECTIONS - TBA by 4/8, depending on launch location. Figure in 2+ hours drive time from central Fort Lauderdale.
TIDES - Low at Cape Romano is about 9:30AM; if you want the tide behind you going out from Goodland we will have to leave as early as possible. Also, outgoing tide makes surfing better at Caxambas and the other inlets on the way south.
SURFING (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x97e7Y7uvU4) - if you're planning on surfing breaking waves, have your helmet with you. If you wish to buy one, email Industrial Paddlesports (whitney@industrialpaddlesports.com) - they are in stock.
KAYAK RENTALS - Kayak rentals are not available for this trip.
FOOD - If we launch from Little Bar, we will plan on eating there after the trip. Snacks are encouraged for the break out on Cape Romano.
GEAR (https://www.meetup.com/kayaking-130/pages/GEAR%21%21) - BASICS plus VHF and SUN CLOTHING. Skirts required for cockpit boats.
