Madison Kayaking Meetup Group Message Board › Paddle the Mecan River

Paddle the Mecan River

A former member
Post #: 23
You're invited to join,, for a paddle on the Mecan River.

This river has an Awesome landscape, one min you are in pines
then in oaks then you feel like you are in the Amazon. This was the windiest river I have been on so far with some downed trees to maneuver around and very few dwellings near the water and several farm bridges to go under its worth paddling once. This river has narrow channels (around 5 - 8 ft wide) with tight turns. On some of the turns, currents can push you into the banks and trees. (Last year one had his 17ft sea yak and a there was a 17ft canoe, they did ok).

We will stop for lunch at the 14th St bridge,
so bring a lunch. We may just park a car there with a cooler.

Meet at the put in at 9:30 am on Hwy Y in Dakota Take Hwy 22 South out of Wautoma to Hwy JJ Take a right on Hwy JJ to the town of Dakota Turn left / South onto Hwy Y one block to the bridge. Note it is a safe fun river to paddle No one lost it or tipped over

After the paddle we will go to the restaurant in town. They have the BEST melt in your mouth prime rib
