December's DrupalPugKC: Mashup edition

We will be welcome our friends from Drupal KC to our group this month to share and learn from each other's development experiences. Look for great discussions around the benefits of using a full CMS system like Drupal, more general PHP frameworks (large or small) or just stock PHP.

Oh, and I'm sure Composer will come up at least once. ;-)

It's going to be a friendly yet energetic discussion to be sure! Come join us!

Our Standard Meeting Format

We love Web Development, PHP, new development techniques and everything in between. Often our meetings are a little free-formed, but for the most part fall into

  • Meet and Greet new members!
  • John Kary presents "Last Month in PHP" - Some highlights and happenings in the PHP Universe
  • Members bring forward issues, concerns or other items of interest

All Developers Welcome!

We understand that many PHP Developers don't just code in PHP. Whether you are working in a framework like Symfony, Zend Framework, Silex, Slim, FuelPHP, CakePHP or a CMS like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla our goal is that you will find something new, relevant and useful.

We are also happy to have presentations or even code reviews if appropriate. If you are interested in giving either, just let us know!

What a great meeting everyone!! Lots of great conversation, and certainly time well spent. I hope you all got something out of it.

I had a couple of questions I was curious about, but didn't want to break up the flow of our conversations to ask it.

First, for Karl or any other Drupal user: Is there a short list of plugins that you have on hand as kind of your defacto go-to setup? I head cck and views both mentioned today, but those are either now or about to be in core. Are there others you just won't bring a site up without?

Second, primarily for John-you mentioned a Drupal rollout that had hundreds of sites. Were you able to get a core set of plugins and modules and just define that as a standard set? Did you have to have a process for requesting, vetting and adding new ones at the groups requests? Or, does Drupal let you load separate modules for different areas or sites? For everyone else, any questions you wanted to ask but didn't get the chance?

    Thanks All,

Forgot one that I use for development all the time - Drupal for Firebug () and it's Firefox/Chrome extension. It adds an icon to your browser toolbar that gives you quick access to the Drupal data structures used on a request. It's very handy for theme work.

Thank you both. Karl, that was a truly above and beyond reply. Not only have you outlined a great list to get someone started, but have certainly inspired me to give Drupal another try.
