Auckland - Global Day of Code Retreat

Following the great success of code retreat last weekend, we are running another one!

This is going to be part of the great Global Day of Code Retreat 2012 #gdcr12

Sadly, Corey won't be running this one, but luckily Alex has offered to facilitate for us - yay!

We're back on K Road, this time across the street up in the BizDojo itself, rather than down in the Maker Space. It's a much more traditional setup for coding, with desks and comfier chairs. There'll still be coffee and refreshments... I think it'll work really well :-)

The event will be free and open to all - subject to my ability to raise enough sponsorship $$ to fund it! The first event cost us ~$50/head + GST.

Again - if you can help in this area at all, I would love to hear from you!

If we get enough people committed to coming we will investigate the possibility of running two events... watch this space!

Cheers, Ian

During the day today I mentioned two presentations: Amanda Laucher and Paul Snively on Tests vs Types ( http://www.infoq.com/presentati... ) and Brian Beckman on Monads and LINQ ( http://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/... ).

Enjoy some more exercise for the mind :)

Random number-generator was random! Congrats to Rob, Arthur and Tom on picking up a prize, and thanks to the Global sponsors O'Reilly, Clean Coders and structure101.com for supporting the event.

Also: Massive shout-out goes to LeapThought for funding the whole day. We - quite literally - could not have run the day without their support.

Cheers all for coming, and see you next time!

Mentally challenging, socially stimulating, and professionally... well not so much about the best axe or even the hottest chainsaw, but more about showing many different and useful ways to "cut down a tree".

    Greetings, coders!

With the global day of code retreat just 6 days away, I wanted to thank you all for signing up to be part of this massive global event.

    - Please be at the BizDojo at 150 K Road by 8:30. For those of you who were at the last one: this is across the road from the Maker Space.
    - Bring a laptop!
    - Bring a brain!
    - Write code!
    - Have fun!

Just a reminder that the event is a fully funded, sponsored day. People have worked hard to make this happen for you, so *please* change your attendance status if you cannot make it on the day, for any reason!

Look forward to seeing you all there :-)

So what languages do people want to hack on/with - I'm keen on doing a switch up between Yeti ( http://mth.github.com/yeti/ ) and F# - two ML derived languages, the first being for the JVM and the other .NET - and maybe even some pure OCaml if anyone knows it ( I know little to nothing of all three ).

    Some Clojure maybe...

Honestly, I have more respect for VB6 than VB.Net. Some nice thoughts here: http://www.hanselman....
