WELCOME FELLOW KNITTERS!
The following FAQs may look familiar as they are based on the FAQs for the Santa Cruz Indie Film Group. Any typos are completely unintentional and should be brought to my attention immediately and repeatedly. Information will be updated as soon as I think of original commentary, but I thought it would be effective for the time being.
Here are a few of the places we have knit in the past:
Aptos Coffee Roasters, Rancho Del Mar
Coffeetopia, Palm Center, Westside Santa Cruz
Caffe Bene, downtown Santa Cruz
Luminous Threads, Felton
Caffe Pergolesi, downtown Santa Cruz
Lava Rock, Seabright district
1. What is the purpose of the group?
This group is open to anyone and is devoted to encouraging knitters of all levels to pursue their goals. We meet to inspire each other with new ideas and encourage one another to finish the projects we start. I am, by no means, an expert knitter. This is more about the fun and genuine enjoyment you can receive from meeting new people (who could potentially be your friends, if you?d only give them the chance) and get a chance to show off your mad skills to people who will appreciate the effort you put into your projects!
2. How will I find you?
We have meetings on:
When you show up at a venue, look for knitting needles and skeins of yarn.
3. What can I expect during an event?
Prepare to work hard (sort of) and gab with your fellow knitters.
3a. Do I have to know how to knit?
No. I will teach you the basics if you don't mind the possibility that I will end up teaching you the 'combined' method.
At least one knowledgeable member is likely to show up at any particular event. For those of you who need a little assistance with a project's damage control from time to time, WE can help!
3b. Do I have to learn to knit?
No. You can crochet, needlepoint, embroider, cross stitch, hook rugs or macrame. You can even underwater basketweave (but you'll have to bring your own tank). Mixed media is encouraged and be prepared to answer how-to questions regardless of your choice.
4. Can I bring a friend to the event?
Certainly! The more people participate in an event the greater likelihood we build a diverse, fun group of individuals who have a good time creating textile arts. If you know of other people who would like to join the group, please feel free bring them or use the "Invite Friends" link (left margin).
However, you are not obligated to bring a friend. Let's face it, we all have friends, but part of the point in joining a group like this is to meet NEW people. ?and, to be quite honest, if your friends wanted to knit, you probably wouldn't have to join a group like this, would you?
5. Do I have to RSVP to events if I'm not attending?
No, but doesn't it feel nice to stay in touch? It?s okay to RSVP "maybe" or "no," to let me know that you're interested in participating, and are just unable to attend a specific event.
6. Does it cost money to attend events?
As the Organizer, I am charged $9/month to use this site. However:
Members do not pay a membership-based fee to join this group or an event-based fee to attend an event.
If this policy should change, members will be told 30 days in advance.
Members only pay for any goodies you may want during the meeting. Sharing with the group is appreciated but not necessary.
7. I would like to knit more than once a month and/or choose my own location. Would anyone care to join me?
There are lots of local knitting events. If you plan on attending one, I encourage you to contact me. I will certainly join you myself if I can fit it into my schedule. If you plan to do this often, and would like to become an Assistant Organizer, let me know and we can discuss the logistics.
8. Stop e-mailing me! How the hell do I get off of the mailing list?!
Your opinion is valid and I can totally understand where you're coming from. Even I can barely stand to read the drivel I write (but that?s why I express myself through yarn instead of pen and ink). So, if you have absolutely no intention of ever attending an event (I can't imagine why you wouldn't! ...but, to each their own, I suppose) and would rather not hear from me, you can remove yourself from the group here:
If you don?t remember your password, please respond to the next offensive e-mail you receive from me and I will remove you from the group (free of charge, even!).
So that's it in a nutshell; everything you ever wanted to know about the Santa Cruz Knitting Group. Or is it? If not, drop me a line: http://knitting.meetu....
Congratulations on your decision to meet people in the local knitting community. Don't you feel special? You should; you can make beautiful objects of art with your own two hands!
I hope to see you soon!
