Join partners Mississippi Valley Conservancy & Friends of the Black River for a public hike of MVC’s first nature preserve in Jackson County, the result of a donation from Gil and Jon Homstad. This 20-acre preserve, located just east of Black River Falls, protects over 700-feet of frontage along the Black River. The land includes a combination of wetlands and forest dominated by jack and white pine and red and black oak. This land is now open to the public for hiking, birding, hunting, fishing, snow-shoeing, and outdoor education. Wear long pants, close-toed shoes & bring a camera! Date: Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 Time: 5:30 meet at the Coop Credit Union Parking Lot in Black River Falls to caravan to the site or meet at 6:00 on site Duration: plan for an hour-long hike over moderate terrain through pine-oak forest along the Black River Where to go: Coop Credit Union - 100 E. Main Street, Black River Falls – at the junction of Highway 27 and 54. Directions to the site: From Black River Falls, WI head north out of town on Highway 12/27. Turn right/east onto County Road E then take the second right to turn south onto Water’s Edge Road. Drive to the end of the road and park at the cul-de-sac.
