Presentation Details
2013 grammy.com website by Bao Trung (http://drupal.org/user/127919) and Kevin Colligan - still pending (http://drupal.org/user/410377) http://grammy.com is one of the busiest websites on the web on a single day every year. Come learn about the Drupal magic that makes this site awesome.
What Will Be Covered? Bao Truong (and Kevin Colligan (http://drupal.org/user/410377) - still pending) from grammy.com will come share updates regarding how things went this year. Overview will include server setup, performance analysis, the upgrade process from D6 to D7, responsiveness design and site editor workflow.
Who Should Come? Everyone is welcome, but if you're site architect or drupal nerd this is a real treat!
About the Presenter: Bao holds the position of Digital Media Consultant at The Recording Academy, which continues its rich legacy and ongoing growth as the premier outlet for honoring achievements in the recording arts and supporting the music community. The GRAMMYs are the only peer-presented award to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.
The Case for + Drupal Fit in Practice by Erin Clerico (http://drupal.org/user/639254) and Steven Rifkin (http://drupal.org/user/882424) This month Erin and Steven will be sharing complimentary presentations they both have been wanting to share about Drupal Fit.
What Will Be Covered? Erin will disucss The Case for Drupal Fit, shaping-up to be a better Drupaler. New science points the way to maintaining and improving mental agility with diet and exercise. Find out how to add fitness to your daily and weekly iterations to live long and prosper.
Steven will cover Drupal Fit in practice. After having noticed body changes after many years of sedentary work, it was time for a change. Beginning with the 2013 work year, I integrated changes into my daily work routine to include new techniques for staying sharp and keeping fit. At the time of this meetup, I will have 60+ days of statistics to relay as a proof of concept to the scientific information that Erin will be presenting. I will cover my new walking desk as well as integrating life tracking devices such as the Jawbone Up and the upcoming Fitbit Flex. Time permitting I will be joined remotely by a special guest in the Drupal community to whom I sub-consciously attribute some of my work changes. We will also open the floor for Q&A and to hear the process that other community members take to stay mentally agile and in good health while working.
Who Should Come? Everyone. No really. If you're drupalisto working behind a desk this is especially for you!
About the Presenters: Erin practices Drupal professionally in the Bakersfield area and regularly participates in LA Drupal events.
Steve Rifkin - Who has two thumbs and loves Drupal? This guy. I am a jack of all trades and now master of one (Drupal). Having started out as a Physics major, I graduated from Northwestern University with a double major in Theatre and Economics. Read more on his profile page.
Users Helping Users and open Q&A
The general meetup begins at 7:00pm but the doors open a little earlier for Users Helping Users, which is a chance for members of the community to help and be helped by others with whatever questions and problems they're having with Drupal. Please note that while Users Helping Users is not designed to be a replacement for bonafide consulting from a Drupal professional that there are plenty of Drupal experts and professionals who attend our meetups and sometimes they need help, too!
Lightning talks
We have time as well for lightning talks, which are 5 minute presentations from attendees who would like to share something with the group. If you'd like to give a lightning talk, be sure to come a few minutes early and bring your laptop (and power and display cables) and whatever else you need.
As always, please feel welcome to leave a comment below and let others know what you'd like to present ahead of time.
Job announcements
At the beginning of each meetup LA Drupal provides an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.
Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!
We love our sponsors and have several raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers.
Breakout Groups
As we've occasionally done, we'll split up into groups (sometimes called BoFs, or birds of a feather) and each group can jump into a particular topic that's set at the beginning of the meetup. The topics for these BoFs so far have ranged from high performance websites, Features-driven development, PCI compliance and general "getting started" discussions.
What to bring
Bring a co-worker, maybe your laptop or tablet, but definitely bring your business cards for networking. We do a lot of networking!
