Experimentation in Digital Photography | Assignment: Look Up

Presenter: John Flinchbaugh

Digital photography gives us the tools to quickly experiment and measure our results.  Let's tackle some of our common questions, make some hypotheses, and conduct some tests, so we can figure the some answers for ourselves. Some of us just don't believe anything until we see it for ourselves.

I'll discuss the value of learning from others' experience and the ways we can test ideas for ourselves to truly understand the little mysteries of photography.

Assignment: Look Up

A few reminders about some of the basic rules of the assignment:

• Members may submit 2 photos.

• Photos should be emailed to us the Wednesday prior to the Thursday meeting.

Great job John with your presentation. It was nice to get to meet you all and look over some nice photographs yesterday evening. The critique helped me to understand how other people viewed the images and how others may alter what was presented to get a different feel.

I really appreciated your presentation, John - it was the first time I'd seen the Exposure Triangle, and I think it will be a great jumping off point for finally doing some real experimentation with my basic settings!

I'm so sorry I missed the meeting - I'm sure the info shared was very worthwhile. I'm uploading my 2 pics - not sure how they came across on "the big screen". The critique sessions teach me a lot.

Great Digital Photography session by John Flinchbaugh. Putting the scientific method to work as I experiment with Aperture, Setting, and ISO settings. Was randomly selected to win "How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements 12" book. Excited to dive into it. Thank you for a fantastic feedback session. I enjoyed sharing and viewing so many inspiring photos!
