Part 1 Explained
Everyone knows what a scavenger hunt is, but what’s a photo scavenger hunt? A scavenger hunt depends upon finding and retrieving things from a given list. Whoever accumulates the most things on the list wins.
The difference with a photo scavenger hunt is that we only take away images of the things on the list. But it goes much deeper than that. Can you imagine retrieving a smile in an old-fashioned scavenger hunt? Well, in a photo scavenger hunt, you can. Emotions, gestures, suggestions, hints, fantasies, and events are all fair game.
On the date of the Photo Scavenger Hunt we will publish the list of clues to capture at 8:30 AM. The clues will be made available at our Meetup website in the Files section. They’ll be available in PDF format. You will have until 5:00 pm to accomplish this task by shooting anywhere at all to fill the list of clues with your interpretations. Your creativity is tested and exercised to the limit in this event. Kudos are gained by providing the most innovative solution to the clue.
Here’s an example (not found on the clue list you will be given): “Dinosaur” Dinosaurs were extinct 65-70 million years ago. Where would you find a dinosaur to photograph today? You might look for a gas-guzzler car, enhanced by a smoking (fire-breathing?) tail pipe. Or you might head to the toy store, plenty of dinosaurs there. How about a museum display? I think you get the idea.
The list of clues that you will receive is geared to adults. This is because we want you to think. Exercise the little gray cells. There is nothing inappropriate for kids but much will fly over their heads, I am afraid. Then again, I may be surprised, as I often am.
Part 2 Explained
Here’s exactly how part 2 works:
When you are finished shooting your clues, plug your memory card into your computer, navigate to your memory card and make a directory on that card, name it with “your name”.
Assume you shot 17 images of a clue named “corn”.
Select the one perfect “corn” image and copy it to the directory with “your name” on it. Change the file name from “_MG_2080.jpg” (or whatever default name scheme you have selected) to “corn.jpg”.
Bring your memory card to the meeting and drop it into the provided envelope and write your name on it. That’s it.
Part 3 Explained
We will meet at the Lancaster County Convention & Visitor's Bureau, 501 Greenfield Road, Lancaster, PA to share our results. We will distribute an envelope to each participant for your memory card. Write your name on the envelope and enclose the media card. Please be prepared for a delay while we enter your results into the computer for display.
There are no prizes, just the adulation of the crowd. Let me know prior to the event if you have any questions about how this is going to work, and I hope to see you there!
