Lightroom/Texture Assignment Photo Meetup

From: Brian
Sent on: Monday, August 3, 2009 10:47 PM
Hi everybody!

I hope everyone's having a great summer. We have some exciting things going on for the Lancaster Photography Meetup group. In addition to our semi-regular photowalk outings, we've also mustered up the initiative to have a regularly scheduled meetup on the first Thursday of each month.

We've structured these new meetups into two distinct sections. First, there will be an hour of instruction/ hands on activity / demonstration type things going on. Second, we will have a photo assignment that all group members can participate in throughout the month on their own and then share their best shots with the group at the meetup!

Because we were a little late this month our first regularly scheduled meetup will not be the first Thursday of August but rather the third (Thursday, August 20th.) But honest to goodness it will be on the first Thursday of the month thereafter, no foolin'.

There's some more information on this month's meetup below, but who needs details? Why not RSVP right now? You know it's going to be great, right?

RSVP for the Lightroom Basics / Texture Meetup

Adobe Lightroom Basics

Learn about the basics of a great piece of software for photographers of any stripe, Adobe Lightroom 2.0. From importing and organizing your photos, to adding metadata, to its powerful and unique non-destructive editing process, to various forms of exporting, we'll be covering the basics of this unique piece of software geared specifically towards photographers.

Mike Miville, a professional wedding and commercial photographer and workflow maestro, and Brian Evans, a self-diagnosed metadata nerd, will be guiding you through the wonderful world of Adobe Lightroom.

Texture Photo Assignment Review

As part of our new monthly get-togethers, we'll have a photo assignment each month. Hopefully these little assignments will help you concentrate on a particular area of photography and help expand and improve your photographic repertoire.

This month we will be exploring all the nitty gritty greatness that is texture! You can interpret the photo assignment any way you wish, but if you need some texture-y inspiration, why not check out the texture pool at Flickr.

Monthly Photo Assignment FAQ

Q: Do I need to participate in the assignment to come to the meetup?

A: No, absolutely not. Even slackers are welcome. In all seriousness, these assignments are purely optional.

Q: I'm going to me mocked aren't I?

A: Ummmm, no. Although we will be sharing our work, it's not going to be a critique session, unless you specifically ask for feedback or help. It's more of just a general share session on the big screen.

Q: How many photos can I submit?

A: For this first month, we're looking at three (3) per person. We'll see how that goes and go from there.

Q: Okay, I'm in! How do I submit my entry?

A: I'm glad you asked! Please send all your entries (as jpg's please) to Mike B. at [address removed]. Please format your entry filenames in a coherent way so that Mike can reasonably organize them such as Evans_Brian_Texture_01.jpg, etc.

Q: But I'm a huge procrastinator, what is the last possible time I can submit a photo for the meetup?

A: Always the Tuesday prior to our new regularly scheduled Thursday meetups so as to give Mike some time to get everything together and ready to go.
