LAPHP November Talk: E-commerce with PHP - Introduction to Magento

  • November 16, 2010 · 7:30 PM
  • Magento HQ

Join us for the LAPHP November talk!

Quick update: The correct address for Magento HQ is 10441 Jefferson Blvd.
At the gate, please dial *1000 to open the gate.

Responding to the popular demand we will have a talk on e-commerce with Magento. This will be a joint meetup with LAPHP, Magento HQ, Los Angeles Magento Developers Group and SoCal Magento Meetup Group

We are adding few extra spots -- the conference room is pretty small, but we are trying to squeeze in as many people as possible.

Please note that due to the popular demand we will have another LAPHP talk on Magento early next year.

For those of you who cannot attend this event in person, we will be doing the live stream broadcast here: http://www.ustream.tv...

Magento attracted a lot of attention lately and quickly becomes a sort of de-facto standard e-commerce platform for PHP. Therefore we thought it would be interesting to our members to have some general overview of it and some insight of how it can be customized and extended. Also as some of our members noted, there’s a lot of Magento work out there right now.

We will try to make this event less of the speech and more of the discussion, with fairly short talks and more time for panel and Q&A session after each talk. This meeting will be kindly hosted by Magento HQ at their new office space in Culver City. Special thanks to Andrea Cannistraci at Magento for hosting us this time.

Agenda:

7:00 to 7:30 pm - Food and networking
7:30 to 8:00 pm - Welcome and Introduction to Magento by one of Magento's own engineers
8:00 to 8:30 pm - Customizing Magento classes / writing your own extensions by Ron Peled
8:30 to 9:00 pm - Discussion panel and more networking

Great talk by Ron Peled. It gave pretty good idea on building Magento extensions followed by very nice and informative discussion afterwards. Also thanks to Yoav Kutner (Magento's CTO) for a quick intro and a bit of Magento history.
