A Message from Jeff, the organizer of this great group

Dear Friends and Fellow Practitioners,

We continue to have great meetings throughout the year at different venues.  This week, I hope you will be able to attend Rondi's annual wine tasting party at her home this Friday after work.  Besides helping to raise our consciousness, this meetup was also designed as a support group to help us achieve our goals, increase our networking capabilities and assist one another whenever possible.

Besides being the organizer for this group I am also the executive director of the Humane Society of Louisiana.  My goal is to help raise our collective awareness on the plight of animals, reduce their suffering and promote their wonderful spiritual kinship to us.  I recently sent out an email appeal to some of our volunteers, and I would like to share it with members of our group, in case some of you would like to pitch in and help our cause.  The picture may be difficult to look at, but it is what we see on a regular basis.

Dear Friends and Volunteers,

Almost each week we receive disturbing complaints about the mistreatment of animals, especially horses, like the Quarter horse pictured above,  who was abandoned near Ville Platte.   Several weeks ago, we worked with the chief of police in Lake Providence, a small town in East Carroll Parish, to administer aid to 10 malnourished horses and just last weekend we worked closely with the sheriff and district attorney's office in Avoyelles Parish to have a city council member arrested for neglecting his three horses. After Councilman Jordan's arrest, we took possession of three of his horses.

All of these investigations and the seizures and rehabilitation of neglected animals take enormous resources, and it is straining our budget to keep up.  If you would like to help us give aid to these stricken animals, there are three concrete steps you can take today:

1.  Become a dues-paying member.  Join us online at or send in your $20/year dues to HSL, P.O. Box[masked], New Orleans, LA 70174

2.  Hold your own lemonade stand, bake sale or dog wash and contribute the proceeds to our group!  Contact me at [address removed] to make the necessary arrangements.

3.  Attend our upcoming band benefit at One-Eyed Jacks, 615 Toulouse St,  New Orleans, on Saturday, June 16th from 10 pm on.  Please help us promote this event on your social networking sites or distribute fliers for us.  Contact me if you would like fliers sent to you.
