Testing
Database (research)
php and or Java Script
MySQL 1

Hey everyone, we seem to have missed quite a few of you on the credits database, since some didn't check in, and others we do not have bio's for. Please add yourself to this database if you hacked with us last night!

Hey everyone, there were allot of picture floating around from last night. I slapped together this script real quick, please upload photos you have from last night here. They will publish to a flikr stream!

http://siliconbeachyachtclub.com/ <--- where to upload pictures!

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/93489363@N04/ <--- photo stream

I'll copy the pictures back through to the meetup, but this seems dead simple to distribute and upload to without needing a login.

Hi DW - any updates on the listings and categories? I did see consulting companies listed but then they disappeared. Also, companies like Epson and Laser Fiche should be listed under Consulting instead of Start ups -

Currently the finishing touches on our DB are being done by Jerry (theagent). Current listings are scraped from Startup Genome, not representative of the Data your team acquired. Will post with updates.

Last night was awesome and on point with the type of collaborative effort WE Labs wants to foster in the Long Beach Creative Tech Community. Huge thanks to John, Ali, DW and everyone that attended for making this event happen. WE are looking forward to hosting more events like it.

Very fulfilling to be able to contribute and get several Long Beach IT companies listed on the map. The more resources we can bring in - the more benefit we can generate for each other and LB. Great Job Long Beach Tech and We Labs.

Everyone. You guys are all incredible. I can't really even wrap my head around how cool this was. I think we really proved we have an amazing group of people in Long Beach. Its 3:21am so I can't list everyone, tomorrow I will.

    the map lives! http://map.longbeachtech.org

We've developed so much more in design, branding and ethos in one night. We'll pool all this and start scheduling it for updates, as not everything is finished. But amazing, absolutely amazing. We did what we set out to do in just a few hours!

I'm going to drop the GIT requirement from the project, because we have a lack of participants. Instead we will be running it all to a local file server, and using pivitol tracker to notify file changes. I will work with everyone for file submission, and Ali will load builds and Approve releases as we go.

Here is a rough sketch of a workflow I am thinking of.
    http://goo.gl/Bp2wV

Will be used for group chat during the hack, if you are tele-hacking, please hang out here.
    https://lbtech.talkerapp.com/rooms

Pivitol Tracker will be used from project management (Dan, will help lead the charge at the top of the meetup to scope this)
    https://www.pivotaltracker.com/projects/761041

Finally, we'll be using drop box to upload all files.
    https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public/HackNight

As you check in, I'll be taking your emails down. Feel free to email me now to get setup on all these services. [masked] , "services" in the subject line.

    • Jerry S.

We're not launching a mission to Mars. The number of contributing developers are likely to be counted on a single hand. I'm all about the right tool and process for the job. Straight GIT with none of the above would work without issue. At this point I'm leaving the repository as plain vanilla GIT and we can add in the workflow if that is what we want. Let's not wrap ourselves around a peg at this point especially since this is well defined code.

      February 20, 2013

    • John G.

I'd like to default to Git alone, I like git flow, but if you know git flow, you know git. If anyone's playing catch up it fouls everyone up.

What is everyone's feeling about listing Jobs? That would make it a more valuable resource for the whole ecosystem (in my opinion), while our map is small/regional enough to not be cluttered, especially by clicking layers on/off?

    1 · February 7, 2013

    • John G.

All is good, I don't know if a feed or hand placed are better, and I agree with Ali on it coming in a rev 2, that way we can judge the traction the map ends up taking.

      1 · February 8, 2013

    • Kevin C.

A feed would be quick and easy to hack, and we wouldn't have to worry about sourcing data, but I feel like hand-placed ads would provide for much higher quality postings with a stronger community vibe. Of course, that necessitates a healthy userbase.

Our firm is searching for another dev, so we're definitely on board!

    1 · January 21, 2013

    • John G.

Does the 21st work best for you mike?

      January 21, 2013

  • DW F.

Since the 13th of February is our Mixture, would we cancel that even and do this instead? Or do this on the 20th/21st as a follow up event? We're already on Harvelle's calendar for Mixture on the 13th, and 11 are attending that. I can attend if it's the 20th/21st, and I can help with copywriting, communication between team members, and Axure wireframes. I can also code if need be, but I think there are communication roles I can play that would be a better contribution. Also, I would recommend that we revise the project to:
Let's build a map that represents the Tech Startups Community

It would be great to list the startups, but I think we should also list companies and individuals that specifically support Tech Startups and offer resources to them. We would need to develop criteria for what is listed, so we're not listing office lease agents and deli's that make sandwiches for tech entrepreneurs sometimes (no offense if that's your gig).

    January 21, 2013

    • John G.

I couldn't agree more. I think the 20th or 21st is great for a date. As it stands, in the fork I posted, there are Startups, Accelerators, Incubators, Coworking, Invsestors, Consulting, Hackerspaces, Events

We can rename them, take away/add more and our own customizations, so getting a list worked out for this that we are happy with, I like allot!

      January 21, 2013

  • Markus M.
