Long Beach Drupal Meetup :: Drupal 101

Long Beach has a vibrant Drupal community, however, it's been a four month hiatus since our last Long Beach meetup. It was a good summer break, but fall is here, time has changed, and it feels like the season for some fun after work networking, sharing about Drupal, and some quality open source community time. Our last series of meetups was hosted by LA Net in the Belmont area, come join us at our new host WE Labs (new location) in downtown Long Beach.

This month we're open to topic ideas as we prepare for a series of upcoming events in Long Beach. Have a suggestion or idea? We're a bit torn between having some topical presentations or contribute meetups where we help fix & learn Drupal together. Please post in the comments.

Who should attend?
Anyone interested in learning about or contributing to Drupal and more generally building websites. Local experts regularly attend this meetup and share their real-world experiences and best practices. We encourage anyone just getting started in web development and Drupal to come join us to learn and share.

What is the format of the meetup?
The Long Beach meetup had a history of being a smaller casual meetup more geared towards contributing and learning the innards of Drupal and workflow best practices. That said, we're open to your wants and needs -- please tell us what you'd like to see covered and we'll do our best to make it happen!

5:45 - 6:45 PRE-MEETUP OFFSITE:  informal socializing, Dinner, Drinks - at Congregation Ale House -- 1/2 block west from WE Labs

7:00 - 7:30 Setup, Introductions, news and announcements
7:30 - 8:15 Presentation TBD -- Please post a comment if you'd like to see something or share something
8:15 - 9:00 Questions and Answers, Lightning talks, Socializing & Networking and Prizes!

Remotely join us!
Can't make it? We'll be on freenode IRC: #drupal-la -- if there's interest we can host a google hangout, too.

Raffle Prizes
We'll have a free raffle at a meetup with 10 or more people in attendance. This month we're proud to offer free training from the folks at BuildAModule.com -- Experts in online and mentored Drupal Training

Mike, Should I do any pre-prep? ie. Load Drupal, etc.?

      November 15, 2013

    • Mike S.

Dan - no prep necessary ... although maybe you've already done some prep. If not, this evening I'll be happy to discuss how to jumpstart your setup depending on if you're using a Win, Mac, or Linux box. I also maintain http://dgo.to/drupalp... which is a virtual machine that can be used for development.

I've got a bunch of freelance work if anyone is up for it. Need someone that is reliable and very knowledgable with Drupal 7. See you all at the meeting.

Please feel free to post anything you'd like to see covered at the meetup ... we can do a full contribute meetup (something like drupal ladder: http://drupalladder.org ) -- or we can cover some topics, such as introduction, theming, must-have modules, etc... let me know. I'm pretty good at winging it ... but also, I have time to prepare and would love to throw together a presentation that is of interest. Not to mention, I recognize a couple of people RSVP'd that are Drupal professionals that have been making a living with Drupal for years -- so I'm sure they will add lots to any topic that comes up.
