We're jazzed to hear from Matthew Smith, the Director of New Products at Shutterstock, and Peter Bell, most recently CTO of Skinnio.
We'll try to start things promptly at 7pm.
First up, we'll hear from Matt. For those of you who have been interested in hearing how a larger company is putting lean concepts into practice, you will really enjoy hearing Matt share their practices and lessons. We got to hear him speak at the recent NYC LeanCamp and immediately pinned him down to share his story with this group!
Next we're going to focus on Peter's lessons learned from his recent startup and talk about the dangers of "vanity learning", pivoting gone ADD, finding a balance between code testing and speed of learning, and other great topics.
Matt is currently the Director of New Products at Shutterstock, where he leads the company's video, mobile, and new product strategy. Previously he was a Senior Product Manager at Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG), the worlds leading expert network, where he built and ran the company's survey business. He is a business and strategy expert with a focus on product management, with over ten years of experience building media and technology companies. He approaches all challenges from the same angle: understand the long-term strategy, understand the value, and break things down to simple ideas.
Peter Bell is an experienced startup technologist. He was the CTO of Skinnio (a seed-funded startup based out of Dogpatch Labs), co-organizes New York's CTO School, and is a regular presenter at national and international conferences on topics such as agile/lean software craftsmanship, ruby, nodejs, NoSQL, etc. He is also currently writing a book on managing software development for Pearson.
