May Meetup

Monthly Meetup
This meetup is a little later than normal, and on a different day due to some schedule conflicts. Hope to see a bunch of members out this month.

php|tek
Tim will talk a bit about this year's php|tek conference, good talks, new technologies, and current trends. (Yeah, that sounds kind of dry, but we'll try to keep it entertaining).

PHP: 101
This time we'll open the 101 topic to anyone with a Q&A session. Have a question that's been bothering you? Some code issue that just won't go away? This session will be geared towards more foundational concepts, and the goal is to provide some immediately useful content for our less senior (in terms of development experience) members.

PHP & Beyond
Meet Twitter Bootstrap and friends, the fun loving group that makes whipping up a simple - yet reasonably attractive - user interface a breeze.  Jason will cover how to let you focus on writing PHP without having to spend much time worrying about CSS, layout and design, fonts, and other such things.

Food & Shirts
In response to this tweet:

@tjlytle @lvphp @lvtech free tshirt and food?

— Charles (@charlesbcraig) April 29, 2013

Yes, there will be food, so make sure you RSVP. Also, Tim will be back from php|tek, so there's a very good chance there will be shirts and perhaps other assorted SWAG.

This was a great meetup. Tim and Jason had a lot of very valuable information to share. We had a lot of new people in the group who all participated, and I think it was an excellent overall experience.

Signs are on the doors, you'll have to enter from Harrison. First door down from the gate (sign should be there).

So yeah, quite a few people showing up.

This means I actually have to put effort into my presentation!

Should we bring food to share? or money to split the cost of food? Or are you treating Tim?

    • Tim L.

I'll be grabbing something - no need for money.

Hi, new member. How long is the meetup expected to go on for? I have plans later that evening...

Generally it lasts to about 8:30, but if you have to head out early no one will mind.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone. I am new to PHP, and I have been feverishly been watching training videos for a couple of upcoming projects. I have been looking at IDE's and frameworks, and I am interested in everyone's experiences. I am currently using my Linux laptop setup with Apache in behind the desktop for instant testing. I was using Geaniy as my editor. I am looking at CodeIgniter for a framework to learn as well. I downloaded CodeLobster to check out on the Windows side. Hopefully these will prove to be good introductory conversation.
