Fwd: HONOR FLIGHT volunteer opportunities!

From: bruce

As you may know, I'm passionate about volunteering with Honor Flight - and recruiting other folks* to volunteer, whether it's for a few hours, or throughout the season. And it's a looooong season: late March through early fall.

[What is Honor Flight? Our Greatest Generation is dying, y'all. More than 600 WWII vets die each day. Across the nation, communities are raising money to send their WWII veterans to DC, where they see the WWII monument and other sites and generally have "the best day of their life," according to many WWII participants I've met. Most groups arrive at DCA around 9 or 10 am and return to DCA around 5 or 6 pm.]

Now, where do you come in? I'm seeking volunteers to "greet" flights of WWII veterans as they return to DCA at the end of their one-day trip to DC. The events I'm personally arranging are primarily on weekday evenings.

The experience is so much fun it's hard to describe. What you do: drive (or metro... or bike...) to DCA. Gather outside the appropriate terminal. Make friends with the other volunteers. As the buses pull into the terminal, greet the WWII veterans, and offer them smiles and hugs as they walk and roll into the terminal. Depart DCA with a gigantic smile on your face. Sometimes we do a Happy Hour/social event after, if folks are interested.

To summarize! This email has two purposes:
One: You're invited to the 2013 Honor Flight DCA "Season Opener!"  Tuesday, March 26, 5:15-7 pm, outside of DCA's Terminal A. More info here.
Two:  *You're invited - ok, begged - to browse your mental files for any local groups who might be interested in helping out: students who need service hours, Boy Scout troops, church groups, community associations, etc. Give them my contact info, or vice versa.

Questions? Call, email, or text me!   [masked]

Thanks for reading this email.
