The Limerick Open Source Meetup

An informal social and technical meetup to discuss any and all technology topics over a drink. (Software, hardware, networks, web technologies, Linux etc. etc.) The meetup is called "Open Source" but really we're happy to chat about anything. Gain experience, share experience, meet friends, make friends. Newcomers always welcome!

Very interesting topics regarding Limerick and what we might be able to do to fix this "donut effect".
Pop up shops VS Street markets VS big Retail in the centre. Very broad and diverse backgrounds gave fascinating insights into what cities like San Francisco and New York did. Maybe a shopping arcade (that old Exchange in Nicholas St. would be a boost , maybe the shopping centre/Opera centre will give a boost to a derelict area of the city like they did in San Fran.
Also discussed how Limerick doesn't have its trademark festival compared to Galway (arts, oyster etc), Cork (Jazz), Kilkenny (Comedy). Riverfest is a mish mash of things undefined and tries to please everyone. An example: the Guitar Fest (I never heard of it) was a flop a few years back. Pity! Imagine guitar nuts flocking to Limerick every year?
How to get the word out to joe public about events? Newspapers only have a small amount/uncomprehensive, internet doesn't have even the International Band Competion details.
