RUFF, Pt. Isabel

Same monthly Pt. Isabel Small-Dog Meetup with a different name!

RUFF (Rescues United For Fun) doesn't discriminate against non-rescue dogs, as long as someone in the relationship was rescued! :)

We meet at Pt. Isabel on the third SUNDAY of each month, at 11:30 am, at the picnic tables north of the Sit & Stay Café (if you are facing the café from the parking lot, we meet across the lawn, to the left).

The general structure for the meetup is as follows: From 11:30 am to noon, we will stay at the picnic area (assuming it is available) to allow all the little dogs to meet and play in one location, and for people to socialize with each other. At noon, we take a group walk to enjoy the beautiful open space of Pt. Isabel; join us for all or part.

This meetup is for SMALL DOGS UP TO 25 POUNDS ONLY (or who should weigh less than 25 pounds!). This meetup is NOT FOR CHILDREN; some of the dogs are scared of kids, so please do not bring them to this meetup. Also, be sure to ask before you give treats to any of the dogs, as some have allergies. And be prepared for lots of off-leash fun and cuteness!

Don't forget a jacket; it can get chilly with the wind!

Nice to see everyone! I was sorry so much of the group didn't go for the entire walk, and this visit to Pt Isabel was marred for me by watching a distaught dog struggling to swim over a quarter mile out to the very choppy bay and couldn't get out of the water and it's owner just kept on walking and throwing balls out in the water to his other dogs with complete disregard to how exhausted and distressed this dog was, and then to be rudely told off by this owners family or friends while trying to help rescue their dog in distress was simply outrageous. Kind of makes me think twice about returning to Pt Isabel.

Enjoyed the visit and the walk with exception of witnessing animal abuse and being told by the dog owner's friends "that dog owner was a part of their community and we don't need to be told how to take care of our children by some know it all!" Dog was forced to swim the length of the canal, crying all the way, because it saw it's owner just keep walking on the side with no easy exit out of the water and when dog reached the bay, the dog was too exhausted and the water too choppy for it to reach its owner on the other side.

I didn't appreciate their rudeness and complete lack of consideration for the dog's safety.
