DANCING FOR JAPAN
Dance Fundraiser encourages community to dance in the face of disaster.
LAGUNA HILLS, CA, MAY 22ND, 4-8PM -- Professional ballroom dancer, Stephanie Olsen, 26, will be hosting Dancing For Japan, a dance fundraiser to aid relief efforts for Japan’s Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami victims. Dancing For Japan will feature live music by Ginger Pauley and the Swingin’ SophistiCats, a vintage Jazz and Swing Dance septet. There will be plenty of dancing, and as a surprise for guests, a professional from Dancing with the Stars is willing to donate his time to teach a Foxtrot lesson. Children from Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studio have been spending their Saturdays learning an ancient Japanese martial arts form, and will perform it for the first time at this event. Several National Ballroom Dance Champions are preparing exhibitions to woo the crowd. Global Groove, a Bellydance/drum act featuring Sarah Al Nour and Alec Marken, will perform. A representative from the American Red Cross will be presenting a motivational speech. Many photo opportunities will be available, including having your picture taken with a Geisha or Samurai!
According to the latest tally by Japan's National Police Agency, over 10,000 people have been confirmed dead, and 17,500 are still reported missing. An estimated 30,000 people have been left homeless. After hearing about all the devastation to fall upon Japan, the organizer Stephanie Olsen became passionately inspired by the grace, civility and courage exhibited by the Japanese people. Desiring a way to help and to give others the opportunity to take action, Stephanie started planning Dancing For Japan. Besides the dancing and the performances, the fundraiser will feature an auction, raffle prizes, casino tables and sushi bar. Many businesses have come together to make this event possible by donating their time and resources. Stephanie plans to raise funds through ticket sales, auction items, and company donations. 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross. Dancing For Japan will be held at South Coast Dance Sport, a premiere ballroom in Laguna Hills boasting the largest dance floor in Orange County. Approximately two hundred guests are expected. In her efforts to unite local communities, Stephanie is also collecting letters and pictures to send to the children and families of Japan.
This evening is sure to be lively and enchanting. Join the fun. Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 22nd, from 4-8p.m. Dancing For Japan will be held at 23461 Ridge Route Drive, Suite D, in Laguna Hills.
