Eagle Rock the Hard Way - Pat's for Lunch (BYOB)

Eagle Rock, the most impressive landmark in all of Topanga State Park, will afford us an airy perch overlooking the upper watershed of Santa Ynez Canyon and the ocean beyond. We will snack and explore on this impressive sandstone rock covered with crevices and caves.

Our trip to the rock will traverse some seldom used trails through tall chaparral or oak forest so there will be some shade along the way. The rest is meadow. We'll be going a different route than most of you veterans have used so be prepared for some pleasant surprises. Our return trip will be on fireroad.

Bring camera, plenty of water and snacks

Hike is about 5.5 miles with 1200 ft elevation gain

We'll be doing lunch at Pat's Topanga Grill - BYOB OK. No corkage fee. They will even supply the glasses

Directions

From Topanga Canyon Boulevard, turn east on Entrada Road; that's to the left if you are coming from the San Fernando Valley. Follow Entrada Road by turning left at every opportunity until you arrive at Topanga State Park.

Park on street before the last left turn or pay the iron ranger in the park ($15-20?)

Be sure to read the hike description and stats. It will tell you that although not technically difficult, this is a moderate to strenuous hike.
