Another Hiking With Dean original -- no one does Solstice Canyon like we do! If you are a Solstice Canyon regular you don't want to miss this one with my "secret trail." Our clockwise loop will begin with an off-trail adventure up the western ridge of Solstice Canyon to the Deer Valley Loop. From there we descend into the Canyon on the Sostomo Trail to the waterfall and ruins. After a short break at Tropical Terrace we head back out to the cars via the familiar Rising Sun Trail and the TRW Loop See Map (http://files.meetup.com/454296/Solstice_Canyon_Post_Fire.pdf)

Solstice Canyon is the quintessential coastal canyon. The year-round stream provides ample water to support this 550-acre park's numerous plant communities and a diverse wildlife population.There is a 30 ft water fall and some ruins that are fun to explore....

.....But to get there we are going to do some trailblazing!

Total distance is about 7 miles. The first mile will be the toughest and most strenuous with a 1,000 ft gain. Remember we will be going off trail and hiking through grass and a couple of bushes. Total gain on hike will be almost 2000 feet

No Beginners

Event rules:

1. Carpooling is desireable

2. All hikers must stay on established trails

3. No use of flour or chalk to mark trails.

4. Practice "Leave No Trace" – take only pictures and leave only footprints

Bring at least two quarts water, sunscreen, hat, snacks. Hiking boots.

We'll do lunch down the street at the Malibu Seafood Cafe (http://www.malibuseafood.com/) on PCH after the hike. Ok to bring your own beverage - wine, beer, soda....keep a cooler in your car with your favorite potables

Directions: From PCH, turn inland on Corral Canyon Rd. and proceed north for about 0.2 mile until you arrive at the entrance to the Solstice Canyon Park. Proceed along Solstice Canyon Rd for about 0.5 mile until you arrive at the second parking area. Corral Canyon Rd is between Malibu Canyon and Kanan-Dume Rd.
