2 Musch Hiking - Eagle Rock - Lunch

Eagle Rock, the most impressive landmark in all of Topanga State Park, will afford us an airy perch overlooking the upper watershed of Santa Ynez Canyon and the ocean beyond. We will snack and explore on this impressive sandstone rock covered with crevices and caves.

Our trip to the rock will traverse Musch Meadow and Cheney Ridges through tall chaparral and oak forest so there will be some shade along the way. We'll be going a different route than most of you veterans have used so be prepared for some pleasant surprises. Our return trip won't be on the fireroad this time. Instead we'll return via the other Musch trail that is part of the Backbone trail. We'll start in Trippet Ranch parking lot and end on Entrada Rd

Bring camera, plenty of water and snacks

Hike is about 6 miles with 1200 ft elevation gain

Since Pat's is closed and I haven't settled on a replacement, we'll take an extended break on Eagle Rock. So pack in a nice snack and even some wine to share and we'll make a picnic out of it!

Directions

From Topanga Canyon Boulevard, turn east on Entrada Road; that's to the left if you are coming from the San Fernando Valley. Follow Entrada Road by turning left at every opportunity until you arrive at Topanga State Park. Walk a couple blocks into main entrance. We'll meet by at the benches by bathrooms.

Park on street before the last left turn or pay the iron ranger in the park ($15-20?). The official hike will end on the street outside of pay area.
