Palo Comado - Cheseboro Loop

Join us for a 10 mile/1000 ft elevation gain hike in the northern section of the Santa Monica Mountains. The waters that flow in Cheeseboro and Palo Comado Canyons begin their journey to the Pacific here. In this large expanse of habitat, deer, bobcats, coyotes and rabbits roam. Hike will begin at the Doubletree trailhead to Palo Comado Canyon and make a clockwise loop to Sheep Corral and Shepherds Flat.

We'll stroll through Sulphur Springs and walk quietly amid the oaks and grasses. then down through Cheseboro Canyon.

The Chumash lived in these canyons for thousands of years. Many trails within the canyons may have originated with the Chumash and then were expanded by the ranchers who followed.

Directions:

From 101 Fwy, take Kanan Rd exit. Turn North towards Oak Park 2 ¼ mi to Sunnycrest Dr and turn Right. Continue ¾ mi to where Sunnycrest Dr changes name to Doubltree Rd and park at curb at the 4th(?) "Public Open Space" sign. Bring 2 Qt water, snack, sunscreen.
