The 10th Annual GREAT LOS ANGELES WALK

The 10th Annual Great Los Angeles Walk, is tackling one of Los Angeles' major boulevards... OLYMPIC!

It only seems fitting. Olympic Boulevard was given that name in honor of the 1932 Olympics, and of course, Los Angeles' Olympic ambitions are back in the news. What's more, Olympic was formerly known as 10th Avenue -- kind of fitting for our 10th year!

This is the Great Los Angeles Walk's classic downtown-to-the-ocean urban hike. We'll be starting at the iconic Clifton's Cafeteria (http://www.cliftonsla.com/).

We will meet at downtown Los Angeles' newly renovated Clifton's Cafeteria at 8:45 a.m., where Los Angeles Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne will discuss Olympic and the changing nature of L.A. streets.

After touring Clifton's remarkable rehabilitation, we will proceed to walk approximately 16 miles (at a casual pace) to the ocean.

We'll pass through downtown, Westlake, Koreatown, Hancock Park, Beverly Hills, Century City, Westwood, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica as we make our way to the ocean.

When Olympic comes to the end in Santa Monica, it gets a little hinky between 5th street and the ocean. You'll see on the map below, we have to do a slight detour around the 10 freeway (where it dumps into the 1) but then we get back on path and walk down to Santa Monica's original Muscle Beach for the end.

Take group photos at the Ocean and then head to Joans On Third in Santa Monica to celebrate. We'll eat some food and throw back some beverages while recapping the day Joan's On Third offers sandwiches, salads and more.

The Great Los Angeles Walk will conclude with an after party in Santa Monica at a location to be announced later. We'll utilize Metro public transportation to shuttle from the ocean to downtown.

DIRECTIONS:

To shuttle between end point and Clifton's, park at end point and take bus to Clifton's then walk back to car.

(1) 7:10 - Park at Santa Monica Civic Structure (333 Civic Center Drive - $5 max)

(2) Walk to Broadway and 3rd Street Promenade (0.5 miles)

(3) 7:23 - Board Metro Line 720 (Total fare $1.75)

(4) 8:31 - Disembark at 6th Street and Broadway

(5) Walk to Cliftons (648 S. Broadway - 0.1 mile)
