http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/d/a/6/event_125715782.jpegThe Rock Pool is one of the most popular landmarks in Malibu Creek State Park. It has been the site of many movies and TV shows including Planet of the Apes, Swiss Family Robinson series, Tarzan movies and Dr Quinn Medicine Woman. Bring a sack lunch and some snacks to share for a picnic at the Pool.

This easy-to-moderate (fit beginners will find it strenuous in some parts), yet leisurely 7-mile hike will be just as much fun as the destination! We will be entering MCSP via the Tapia Portal along a trail some our veterans have not used yet and Park regulars may have not seen yet.

Some highlights along the way:

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/6/b/8/event_125730392.jpegThe Mott Adobe - a vacation home built around 1925 by Los Angeles lawyer and member of Crags Country Club Johnny Mott on Mott Road just off Crags Road. The structure is a Spanish Colonial Revival style adobe block structure with a two-door garage, featuring local bricks, wooden doors and beams, and wrought iron fixtures. Only portions of the building are still
standing.

The Visitor Center - The center was built in the Colonial Revival architectural style in the 1920s by Willis P. Hunt as a vacation home. Within you will find maps, books, souvenirs, even refreshments for sale and nature exhibits

http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/e/3/2/event_125736402.jpegCampgrounds - We will also be traveling by a year-round campground that boasts 63 sites.

Bring sack lunch/snacks, water, sunscreen, hat, sturdy shoes. Shorts ok.

Directions to Trailhead - Please Try to Carpool

From Pacific Coast Highway, take Malibu Canyon Road north for 4.6 miles to Piuma

From Highway 101, drive south on Las Virgenes for five miles to Piuma.

[Note: Malibu Canyon & Las Virgenes is the same road...the name changes at Piuma]

There is free parking on the Southeast corner at Piuma. There is pay parking (iron ranger) a few yards south on other side of street and at Tapia Park. We meet at the free corner lot.
