We have Luke Daley of Gradle and Spock fame speaking tonight on his latest project.

Ratpack - A Groovy micro web framework

Sometimes you just need to do some straightforward HTTP, but you still want to use Groovy right? Enter Ratpack - The micro web framework for the JVM inspired by Ruby's popular Sinatra framework.

Ratpack combines the Netty networking toolkit with Google Guice to provide an extremely light and bare bones framework for writing simple HTTP apps. Ratpack is implemented in pure Java, but features specific Groovy support for single script based apps. There is also tooling support by way of the Gradle plugin, featuring support for runtime reloading via Spring's "Spring Loaded" tool (the same that powers Grails 2.x runtime reloading).

Ratpack has had an interesting life so far, and has recently changed hands to be developed by Luke Daley and the project run by Tim Berglund. Come and see what could be a valuable addition to the Groovy developer's toolkit for simple HTTP solutions.
