Why HTML5 & the Cloud?
HTML5 is the new standard for web based development. This Hackathon is to introduce the technology to our various communities and encourage mobile app development using the same. As you all know almost all services & functionality is now available on the cloud. Whether it’s a database, server & storage, messages, music & video, latest stock quotes, product listings etc. We’re bringing these two exciting worlds together in our latest Hackathon on HTML5 & the cloud!
Who’s it for?
Developers who have their own app idea or want to help someone build a prototype using HTML5 and cloud technologies.
Designers who have their own app idea or want to help a team create the best-looking app of the weekend.
Anyone else who either has an app idea or wants to join a team – every project needs a marketer or biz dev to create an app to take the market by storm.
What’s happening?
TechMeetups is holding a hackathon competition for those interested in trying out more HTML5 and cloud technologies by building a prototype app in just 48 hours.
Friday evening - Sunday afternoon
Pitch your idea on Friday (1 minute using 1 PowerPoint slide) or be part of the audience & choose your favourite project from the pitches, form a team, hack a prototype and pitch it to our judges on Sunday for the chance to win some great prizes to help launch your app on the market! WANT TO JOIN IN BUT HAVE QUESTIONS? READ ON...
What do I need to be an idea generator?
You can be anyone with an app idea who wants to build a team and prototype. If you’re a developer, come and find the designer and marketer for your project. If you’re business minded, find developers and designers to bring your idea to life.
Can I work on an existing app idea?
Yes, you can work on an app idea that you and even your business has already researched, but you should not bring along ideas that you’ve already started coding – the weekend is all about building the all-important prototype.
What platforms can I develop for?
Any as long as it's done in HTML5!
Do I need to have a certain level of experience to get involved?
No, the hackathon is about learning as well as applying your skills so you can get involved no matter how experienced you are.
What’s expected of me over the weekend?
You’ll get most out of the weekend by joining a team and building a working prototype of your app over the weekend. We’ll have plenty of mentors, both technical and business oriented, who can help you to use new tools and APIs, as well as help you evaluate how attractive and sticky your app is looking.
What should I bring?
Your enthusiasm, your portable computer, the mobile device you’re building for and your camera to immortalize the making of your application!
What is the judging criteria for theapps? The apps will be judged on their usability, innovation, business potential and execution.
Who owns the apps created?
The apps are owned solely by their creators – we’ll provide you with some terms which you can use so your team knows where they all stand. Do note that we do not get involved legally so it is important that you discuss this with your team before you start on the prototype so everyone is clear on ownership.
