Music, Blogging & Social Media

This month we'll be looking at music and social media. How the industry is changing as a result of blogging and social media, examples of artists using blogs and anything music industry related.

Guest speakers include:

Andrew Dubber - Professor of Music Industry Innovation at Birmingham City University, author of 'Music in the Digital Age' and 'Understanding the Music Industries', and advisor to Bandcamp.

James Howard - heads up music for Google+ in the UK.

Terry Tyldesley - founder of Kitmonsters, a blog that celebrates musicians and the kit they use to get their sound.

We will also be joined by singer / songwriter Toufique Ali who will be playing a short set for our enjoyment.

After all you can't have an event about music without some music too.

This looks a great event Andy! I am a digital marketing exec & data journalist for Musicmetric, a music data analytics firm who specialise in monitoring a musician's social media footprint. I look forward to meeting music bloggers and musicians to discuss the growing social music industry.

This is a topic I am actually already creating a post about. It covers how new YouTube music channels are turning into small mdia empires with stacks full of influence over their chosen niche.

A great example of this type of exercise was the BBH advert that came out for Chrome, last year, documenting how 'The Internet is What you Make of It'. You can see it here --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0cKpvwlSGOI

This will be REALLY interesting! Not only did I used to run a music blog, but I also did my Economics M.Sc. Thesis on the Impact of Digital Piracy on the Music Industry, so very pertinent to my interests. Wicked job, can't wait!

Really looking forward to this. I write an underground electronic music blog called ‘The Techno Kittens’ and we rely heavily on social media. Couldn’t think of a more relevant meet up! See you then.

I have to say that this group is just the best ... every month a real coconut of a topic. Blogging and social media, in fact technology in general, is changing contemporary music and feeding the grass roots. Maybe things will evolve whereby everybody has a little party piece and we'll come together to sing along in perfect harmony, rather than listening to canned music. Here's a few of my melodies: https://soundcloud.com/longpela.

Hi Andy, I manage Music on Google+ in the UK. I'd love to swing by and give a quick summary on G+ for bloggers (authorship, SEO etc), musicians and how they are innovating via G+/youtube with a focus on the social music space in 2013 (crowded with Myspace, Soundcloud and Spotify launching socially driven new apps). I've messaged you on Google+ to the same effect so contact me there if interested.

Hi James, Sounds good. I don't see your message on G+ however. Can you try again or send me a message through meetup with your contact details.
