Creative writing workshop

  • Jan 8, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

London Writers' Cafe is a community for writers who want input on their work. The majority of our group are writing short stories and their first novels but we're open to hearing any form of creative writing - plays, poetry, scripts - all welcome.

Anyone coming to a meeting can reserve a reading spot but there's only enough time for six readers at each one. Being a reader means you'll have ten minutes to read your piece and then roughly another ten minutes for constructive critique, comments and questions on your work from the group. If you'd like to read please post a comment below this description to request a slot. We'll always confirm readers a week or so before the meeting.

If you are reading, please bring at least 10 copies to be shared as you'll get more thorough feedback. We encourage all members to read but there will never be any pressure to do this until you feel ready.

Please note: Due to time limits, there are only only six slots per meeting so please check before you book, by reading through the comments below, if all the slots have been taken. We're very popular so it's very wise to book early if you want to read.

Hopefully that covers everything you'll need to know but for any burning questions, please email us.

Costs: £5 per session; please pay by PayPal when you RSVP.

Location: The Shooting Star is less than 5mins walk from Liverpool Street station, on the central Line. See google maps for details.

Take the Bishopsgate exit from the main rail concourse, cross the road, turn left at Dirty Dicks pub onto Middlesex Street. The pub is about 100 metres down on the right-hand side, past Nandos, and we meet in the function room downstairs.

    Hello Everyone,
Thanks (particularly Lisa) for letting me tell you, in a slightly winding way, about the new magazine last night. As promised the link is www.overtheredline.com. All of the information about how it all works is on the site. I don't think I mentioned that there is a small cash prize for the winners, but that's probably because I know that you are all dedicated to your art and not in it for the money.
Please help spread the word, sign up with Facebook or Twitter, or provide and feedback you think might be useful. In the meantime, good luck with your writing and sure I'll see you all soon.
    Cheers,
    Toby

Quite interesting really. It certainly geared up my other literary juices. Although I could not make any verbal contribution as I came in with an unforseeable illness.

Hi, im new here, I have writing for myself for years but I have never been in any meeting o something like that. For me is kind of scary because what I write is what is most personal. I think I will join one meeting soon

Yes, John, that's you. Vesna - I assumed you wanted a spot from your comment below? If not, that's fine but please don't ask for a reading spot until you are confirmed as attending. Cheers, Lisa.

Hi both - this might be an evening when we have a guest speaker coming in. I'm just waiting for him to confirm. If it is, I'll automatically move you to the next meeting where we have readings. Sorry, I've been meaning to change details but didn't think anyone would want book in just year. But I guess it's a case of the early bird and all that...
