Hurricane Sandy paid no mind to LOPSA DC as she wreaked havoc on the DC Metro region (amongst others) causing us to cancel our first meeting. However, the second attempt of the first meeting of LOPSA DC will be held on November 27th from 7-9pm!

Summary:
On May 23, 2012, the President issued a directive entitled “Building a 21st Century Digital Government”. It launched a comprehensive Digital Government Strategy aimed at delivering better digital services to the American people. The strategy lays out actions in a 12-month roadmap and has three main objectives:

Enable the American people and an increasingly mobile workforce to access high-quality digital government information and services anywhere, anytime, on any device. Ensure that as the government adjusts to this new digital world, we seize the opportunity to procure and manage devices, applications, and data in smart, secure and affordable ways. Unlock the power of government data to spur innovation across our Nation and improve the quality of services for the American people.
Gray will be exploring the ramifications and results stemming from the ongoing implementation of the Digital Government Strategy. Through that work, why APIs are changing government and why they are the medicine that government has been needing, but also why the changes are unavoidable and impact every part of an agency's digital self.

Bio:
Gray Brooks has served at the Federal Communications Commission the last three years as part of the digital team overhauling the agency's web presence and standing up their current Drupal site. In the lead-up to the release of the Digital Government Strategy, he transitioned to the General Services Administration to serve as Sr. API Strategist. As part of the agency's recently launched Innovation Center, his role is to promote the role of web services in government and to support federal agencies in their implementation of the Strategy's milestones
