I didn't choose photography. Photography chose me.

NOTE: The planning session for 2010 was Sunday and turned out to be well attended, lively and bristling with many good ideas. I'd like to thank those who attended not only for you presence but overwhelming enthusiasm and participation. Nikki will forward me the notes from the meeting soon and we'll begin to coordinate the logistics of putting all the great ideas into action. I'm quite excited about the possibilities for this group in the coming year!

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Louisiana Society Of Photographers Meetup Group is to serve our members by encouraging development of their photographic skills through education, hands on experience, exhibitions of photographic accomplishments, friendship with others who share a love of photography and to share our talents with individuals and organizations in our community.

Who We Are

The Louisiana Society Of Photographers is a group that exists to bring together photographers of all skill levels to share, learn, teach and experience the art and hobby of photography. Through online lessons, forum discussions, networking and meet-ups for photo walks and excursions we share our enthusiasm and knowledge of photography with anyone interested in learning and sharing. We all have something to give and we all have something to learn.

This group is open to all photo enthusiasts regardless of your skill set, experience or equipment. Digital and film photographers as well are welcome whether you shoot with an SLR, dSLR, point-and-shoot, medium or large format camera you are welcome here. What you use to capture images is unimportant - your eagerness and enthusiasm about photography is what matters most.

We are an openly democratic group welcoming all photographers who simply wish to take better photographs regardless of subject matter.

What We Do

Our group originally started as a monthly digital photography meetup group revolving around workshops and was founded on February 5, 2009. Over the course of the first four months of this groups existence we evolved from being mostly monthly workshops to sporadic photowalks. Over the past three months our photowalks and excursions have become more and more common and now we have two to four photowalks or excursions planned each month with more in the various stages of planning.

Our group is steadily growing in numbers at a pace that is manageable and our ideas are growing to include showings and exhibitions of our photographs creation of picture stories and photojournalism pieces for submission to local newspapers, magazines and media.

As the Organizer of this group and with the full support and can-do attitude of our Assistant Organizer, Nikki, we often communicate on new ideas to stretch our photographic wings and take our collective photographic experience into new, fun and exciting avenues.

We have big things planned for 2010 so if you're not a member and have even a passing interest in photography consider joining us. If you're already a member check our calendar often as Nikki and I are always working on new ideas we feel will help make your photography hobby all the more enjoyable.
