247 East 50th Street, New York, NY (map)We'll be in the rear area dining room.
Loren is a writer whose book (about a boy who died of cancer) is on its way to publication.
Loren develops bean recipes. He'll share what he's learned and show you how to concoct three simple, bean-tastic dishes.
Beans are high fiber, low in fat, packed with protein and they're delicious.
What's not to love about beans?
I'm bringing prepared beans - probably black. I'll likely show the group how prepare them with a simple sofrito, and they'll taste the results. Then I'll make a pasta or green salad out of those same beans, which I'll pass around for all to try. Then I'll make mini-beanwiches (sliders) for the group's chomping pleasure. I'll also bring along a couple dozen 1# bags of beans - a real variety - and I'll pass around printed cooking, handling and culinary information about each type, and I'll include a couple of my favorite recipes, too. Naturally, I'll go on and on and on about why I salt the bean cooking water and why fat is important to beans and why "the more you eat, the more you toot" is nothing but a bunch of hot air.
