Manayunk Book Club June Meetup

Our June pick made a last-minute surge to take the poll. We'll be reading And the Band Played On by Randy Shilts

In the first major book on AIDS, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Randy Shilts examines the making of an epidemic. Shilts wonders why more people in the gay community, the mass media and the country at large didn't stand up in anger more quickly The AIDS pandemic is one of the most striking developments of the late 20th century and this is the definitive story of its beginnings.

This sounds like both an emotional and an informative read.

Yes, odd. I have everyone else on the list but instead of me a photo of someone named Bart is there. Doesn't matter. I just wondered!

Great! Just wondering why I never show up as attending. Or am I Bart’s lookalike!?

Like Tanya, I have not gotten the book yet, but I still want to come to see the dynamic of this club. Is it ok?

Hi Tony, we always welcome newcomers. Tonight's meeting is smaller than usual, so it might be the best indicator of book club dynamics, but feel free to come out for the discussion and some Mexican food.

Sorry to cancel, I didn't get a hold of the book until recently and didn't get a chance to read it! Have a great discussion tonight guys!

I was holding out cause I really thought I could have more time to read, but here I stand, day before the meeting at 10% read ☹ I will be home, hanging my head in shame and will hopefully return next month!

A work conflict just popped up and I won't be able to attend. I'm so bummed to miss what would have been my first book club meeting! Great book, though! Hopefully someone can fill my spot and I can make it to next month's meet-up.

I'm sorry I didn't realize this was a Wednesday and not a Tuesday. I work nights on Wednesdays. Sorry-hope someone can fill my spot!

Reminder to waitlisted folks: read the book and plan on coming; there are always a lot of last-minute attrition and/or no-shows!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
