Intro to OpenStreetMap

Details
Join us for a tutorial on OpenStreetMap (OSM)!
OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a dataset of roads, buildings, and other mappable features. Since 2004, OSM data has been built, verified, and curated by a community of volunteers around the world.
OSM data powers basemaps in CartoDB and Leaflet (as covered in past tutorials) and every other open-sourcing map tool out there. Come learn:
• who uses OSM
• to what end, and
• how you can contribute!
We are over the moon that Christina Boggs will be giving this tutorial. She's an engineering geologist at the CA Department of Water Resources and a member of myriad GIS-related user groups. Welcome, Christina!
For the curious, here's some additional reading— amuse-bouches before the tutorial!

And as always,
-
beginners are welcome
-
bring a laptop
-
snacks are provided.
We're convening in a modest (but comfortable) meeting room, so we'll have to cap attendance to 22 guests. Please RSVP if you can make it!
Since this topic has already generated some lively discussion, we'd like to bring your attention to the Maptime Code of Conduct: http://maptime.io/code-of-conduct/ We expect all Maptime participants to abide by it, so please take a moment to (re-)read it!
Thanks for helping us make Maptime Sacramento a welcoming and friendly place to gather and learn. :-)
