Marketplace Disintermediation with Thumbtack CEO Marco Zappacosta

Details
This talk will focus on marketplace disintermediation and why the Thumbtack founders decided to let buyers and sellers transact outside of their platform, either via cash or PayPal.
Disintermediation is a problem that every marketplace struggles with and I think Marco’s learnings will be useful.
Thumbtack––backed by $50MM from Sequoia Capital––is a unique marketplace in that it simply "introduces" people to businesses without trying to close the loop or capture the actual cash transaction on its platform. In my interview with Marco, I'll dig into the backstory behind their unusual business model and why they chose it. My hope is that he'll share some lessons learned based on what else they tried & had fail along the way.
Plus, we'll get Marco's thoughts on whether "Uber for Everything" is bullshit, what he thinks of verticalized competitors like Homejoy and more!
Doors open at 530pm. Talk starts at 6pm. Beer and pizza will be provided.
Email me if you have questions.
