Mobile and Device Web Dev night

Details
For the second ever Marquee Club meet up, we’re focusing on mobile and device web design and development. We’re excited to announce that PPK (of Quirksmode fame) is flying out to the West Coast from the Netherlands and will be sharing his vast knowledge of viewports with us at this event. This is vital knowledge for anyone that is serious about mobile development.
We’ll open at 5:30pm with food and drinks and will start with the first talk at 6:00.
If you arrive after 6pm, please email storey.david@gmail.com so we can let you in the front door and elevator.
Immersive Interaction Experiences: Pointer Events, Panning & Zooming, and Gestures: Jacob Rossi (Microsoft, W3C Pointer Events Working Group)
“Point and click” just doesn’t cut it anymore. Users want immersive, rich, and fun interaction models in today’s modern applications. Increasingly, users are also browsing on a variety of input devices from touch to pen to mouse and beyond. In this talk, we’ll cover new and emerging APIs for handling pointer input adaptively across devices, panning and zooming interactions, and gesture handling. Learn about Pointer Events, panning snap points, and gesture processing.
Mobile Viewports: PPK (Quirksmode.org (http://quirksmode.org))
Viewports are hard. Don't let anyone tell you they aren't. Although desktop browsers have only one, and it works pretty intuitively, mobile and tablet browsers have three. And sometimes they don't work intuitively - or at all.
What are the three viewports? (Spoiler: layout, visual, and ideal.) Why do we need all three? Why does responsive design work? (Not how. Why.) What happens when you set the meta viewport? How do browsers go wrong? (Spoiler: in plenty of innovative ways.)
And what about resolution, or DPR? (Spoiler: it is not what you think it is.)
In this session PPK, who spent more time on the mobile viewport than anyone not working for a browser vendor, answers these questions and more.
