This is the first session of our new program for people who have an interest in sketching natural objects. Each month we will meet and sketch specimens from our natural history collections as well as natural objects found by our volunteers and naturalists. There will be one still life display to work from, and many objects built around a theme. For our February session, the theme is “Still Life in the Dead of Winter” and it will include skulls, branches, dried plants, pine cones, and other items. (Our March theme is “Still Life in a Vernal Pool” in keeping with our theme for many of our events planned in March!)
You don’t have to be a fine artist to join us. Even if you have never put pen (or pencil, pastel, or brush) to paper before, please join us – we’re sure there will be plenty of people willing to give a bit of artistic advice.
We will be meeting the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00pm. The cost is $3.00 for members and $7 for non-members. You may want to bring a hand lens or magnifying glass along with the art supplies you’ll use for sketching. So please join us to polish your drawing skills, reduce your stress*, and spend an enjoyable evening with other nature lovers.
* The NHSM cannot guarantee that joining us on “Still Life Nights” will reduce your stress, but we are pretty sure it will.
