September Session: case study - Replatforming to ElasticSearch

Continuing on from our excellent August session we want to keep the ball rolling and keeping us on a more frequent schedule.

For our September session, Mujtaba Hussain of has kindly offered to present a very interesting case study, of how they have re-platformed their search experience using ElasticSearch (and Rails).

Mujtaba describes his upcoming presentation:

"At our aim is to make the property journey for consumers and being able to search for properties is at the heart of that journey.

That was in the forefront of our planning when we decided to re-platform the 'share accommodation' section of our website and use ElasticSearch and Rails to better the search experience.

In this talk, I will attempt to highlight how we went about that journey and accomplished the final search experience."

As usual we encourage all participants to contribute 5-minute lightening talks on any search related subject.

Please RSVP so that we can arrange for food and drinks.

Note that the meetup will occur at the offices near Victoria Gardens in North Richmond. Tram 109 takes you directly to their door.

See you there!

Really interesting to see ElasticSearch used over Rails - picked up some good tips and ideas to apply to our installation (esp. liked Inquisitor). Thanks to Mujtaba for that. The chat afterwards was also really good, so thanks to everyone for that. Inspired to do more awesome things, and once we've got something solid deployed, maybe even offer up a presentation of my own (yes, I know, another ElasticSearch presso - might still be a few months away though).
