Fwd: FW: County Commission

From: Robin
Sent on: Thursday, July 4, 2013 10:12 AM

Monday is the Shelby County Commission meeting and the 3rd and final reading for the proposed property tax increase. It failed last time thanks to Sidney Chism abstaining from the vote. We believe he will abstain again. Terry Roland believes if we can get 100 people to show up to this meeting we can defeat this. As, usual,we will be meeting at Perkins on Poplar and Highland at 11:30 to discuss the agenda and carpool for those who would like to. I encourage you to go to this meeting. Your presence in itself sends a strong message. If you can't attend, please call your councilmen and email them, tell them to vote no on this increase. The following is a link to their contact info.....James Harvey has been known to vote against us on the 1st & 2nd readings and then vote with us on the one that counts. Please encourage Mr. Harvey to vote in favor of small businesses and people on fixed incomes.

Don't forget that the next town hall meeting on smart meetings will be held on Monday also at 6:30 at Memphis City Council Chambers. If you missed the last one, please come to this one. Our elected leaders need to know that we the citizens care about this issue and will be watching how they vote on this in August. The last town hall had almost 300 people from all across the political spectrum that were about 90% in agreement.

I know it's asking a lot and a very busy day but even Benjamin Franklin knew he had given us a Republic if YOU can keep it and how hard that really is. These meetings are never boring, I can promise you that. Our military protects the Republic but its up to YOU and I to keep it.
