Monday is the Shelby County Commission meeting and the 3rd and final reading for the proposed property tax increase. It failed last time thanks to Sidney Chism abstaining from the vote. We believe he will abstain again. Terry Roland believes if we can get 100 people to show up to this meeting we can defeat this. As, usual,we will be meeting at Perkins on Poplar and Highland at 11:30 to discuss the agenda and carpool for those who would like to. I encourage you to go to this meeting. Your presence in itself sends a strong message. If you can't attend, please call your councilmen and email them, tell them to vote no on this increase. The following is a link to their contact info.....James Harvey has been known to vote against us on the 1st & 2nd readings and then vote with us on the one that counts. Please encourage Mr. Harvey to vote in favor of small businesses and people on fixed incomes.
Don't forget that the next town hall meeting on smart meetings will be held on Monday also at 6:30 at Memphis City Council Chambers. If you missed the last one, please come to this one. Our elected leaders need to know that we the citizens care about this issue and will be watching how they vote on this in August. The last town hall had almost 300 people from all across the political spectrum that were about 90% in agreement.
I know it's asking a lot and a very busy day but even Benjamin Franklin knew he had given us a Republic if YOU can keep it and how hard that really is. These meetings are never boring, I can promise you that. Our military protects the Republic but its up to YOU and I to keep it.

A man decided that he would change the world. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change the country. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his community. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his street. But, be wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his family. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change himself. AND HE WAS SUCCESSFUL. AND HIS FAMILY CHANGED AND THEY AFFECTED THEIR STREET. AND THE PEOPLE ON THE STREET AFFECTED THEIR COMMUNITY. AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY AFFECTED THEIR COUNTRY. AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY AFFECTED THE WORLD.
If you believe in the following principles then you should join this meetup.com group.
The Nine Principles 1. America is Great because America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
If you agree with at least seven of those principles, then you are not alone. Thank you for joining Mercury One Memphis!
