Great news for us.

At the beginning of yesterday there were two separate bills, each with its respective senate and house sponsor, both designed to stop forced annexation.  Because these 4 legislators (2 reps and 2 senators) only cared about getting any good bill passed that will stop forced annexation, these legislators dropped one bill and all signed on to the remaining bill which got out of House committee yesterday.  This nearly guarantees its passage.

A little side note of interest may help you appreciate this bill and its success.  An alternative but nearly identical bill was put forth by Rep. Mike Carter and Senator Bo Watson.  The TML (Tennessee Municipal League) is the strongest lobby in the state.  It is funded by every city in Tennessee...large and small and it is your city/county tax dollars that pay for the lobbyists even though they may be lobbying in opposition to what you want.  (Of their 34 Board members, 95% are a city mayor or city official.  Their Board even includes socialist/communist Rogero from Knoxville) These guys (TML) are so accustomed to having their way that they don't bother any longer to ask legislators for help.  Instead, they order the legislators on how they are to vote, what they are to do.  Sounds crazy doesn't it?  It's all about money...and it is these same guys who love Agenda 21 and planned, sustainable living.

Their arrogance worked against them, this time.  Freshman Representative Mike Carter, for whom I've begun to have the highest regard, was visited by the lobbyists for TML shortly after introducing his bill.  Upon entering his office, as soon as introductions were over, TML began to instruct him that his bill stopping forced annexation was unacceptable and that he needed to discard it, that it may not make sense to him right then but he'd eventually get it.

Being older (he's a few years younger than I), independent, owning a couple of factories/businesses, having practiced as a lawyer and having served for 9 years as an elected judge, he most likely didn't respond any better than anyone of you wolverine-independent 912ers would have responded. He acted like a Texan and reacted, letting their lobbyist know that they should not ever set foot back into his office, ever.  Departing as unwelcome guests, they let him know that his and all bills opposing any type of annexation would only see the ash heap of history.  These guys were used to winning because they have use so much money to help needy incumbents see re-election.  Money doesn't trump integrity.

Can you feel the warmth of satisfaction settling back into your soul for just a few minutes?  This is better than Christmas!

During his campaigning, Mike Carter pledged  that if elected, he would focus on one issue:  stopping forced annexation adding that if he couldn't do it, he'd come back home.

We've got another vote before the General Assembly before this bill becomes law but we've got a good chance to see Mike Carter around a bit more.

Lastly, have you been paying attention to the candidates being interviewed or promoted by Glenn Beck?  There is one guy who is running in NC for the US Senate,   Beck calls him the best candidate ever interviewed, right out of the gate.  If you believe that Lee, Paul and Cruz have already had an impact on our senate, can you imagine if this gynecologist, Dr. Gregg Brannon is elected?!  He's ahead 10-15 points, there are others...Cotton in Arkansas.  I'd love to see Carr replace Lamar.  To hear Glenn's conversation with Dr. Brannon, click here.  He is extremely impressive.
