This Saturday, join Rick and Esther on Watson Island for a paddle to Pace Picnic Island and Monument Island. Pack a picnic lunch, charge your camera batteries and get ready for a beautiful day on the bay.
Rentals will be available for this paddle. $35 singles kayak or SUP, $45 double kayak. Call The Paddle House for reservations 786.307.3816.
Difficult: Moderate, distance is about 8-9 miles. Expect boat traffic and wake at times. We will stop twice so you can break up the trip and rest in between.
Parking: Metered Parking is available at the marina. Don't forget to feed the meter.
This is an intermediate paddle from Watson Island to Pace Picnic Island, across the bay to Monument Island, the around Star and Hibiscus Islands back to Watson.
Conditions, as of Wed. 8/28. Forecast is favorable with sunny skies and winds from the SW 8 to 12 mph, increasing in the afternoon.
Consider the heat, the distance, your condition and capabilities, and, keeping up. Being towed is not an option on this trip. The group must stay together. We will cross the boat channels together as a group.
Standard club rules in place - you must wear your PFD, carry any hydration needs and be happy. Be on the lookout for boat traffic (huge boats) and chop under bridges (nautical term). Current can be strong in certain areas, meaning, paddling can occasionally get difficult.
