The Social Writing Club - A Community for Writers & Friends

We are a warm, friendly writing group. We write, we have fun, we socialize and make friends. It really is a social writing community where you can make lasting friends and get a lot of writing under your belt.

So, if you think you can't write, let me show you, you can. If you think you write poorly, let me show you, you are better than you think you are. Writing need not be a dull solitary activity but can be an enjoyable social experience.

We are a creative writing group and write fiction mainly but poets, playwrights, and even non-fiction writers are equally welcome; you too will have a blast.

We have had people who had never written a word before and veteran published writers working through writer's block. So whether your foray into writing is writing dozens of grocery lists or you are a published author with a dozen novels and a movie adaptation in the works, you will find your place here.

We do a lot of very fun writing exercises that have historically been a big hit. We share what we have written if we feel comfortable. Do world building and character designs. Work on personal projects. Low pressure, high energy, good vibes.

For those that want a little more, sometimes we also create sub-groups focused on getting short stories published. A place to prepare, plan, coordinate, get advice and feedback, and keep each other accountable.

We are based in the Ann Arbor area and we meet every week in person. However, we are also working to set up an online community where members can connect between meetings.

Optional Contributions
Running a group on Meetup isn't free for organizers. The group is free to attend, but if you'd like to help cover out-of-pocket costs, any contribution is appreciated — we suggest $10 annually if you can swing it, but less or more are equally welcome. Completely optional, no pressure. Cash in-person works well.
